You do not have to be a member of St. Ansgar to attend our Worship Services.

Our Ministry

Annual Bake Sale, Raffle, and Luncheon:
It Takes a Village: We are seeking dedicated volunteers for the upcoming Rummage Sale, Bake Sale, Luncheon, and Raffle tentative scheduled November 7th. If you possess any items suitable for the raffle or rummage sale, please be sure to bring them in; we will arrange a secure storage space until November. The specific details of this year's event are yet to be finalized. Please note that if we do not have sufficient volunteers, the event may be canceled. Building Fund
Mission Cross: August
St. Ansgar Building Fund
Confronted an aging air conditioning system, and an antiquated boiler, we find ourselves in urgent need of financial support for our building. We are operating against the clock. A special collection envelope will be available each Sunday to help cover the costs of necessary repairs.

The Church Office reminds everyone to plan ahead for the busy Fall and Winter months by contacting the Church Office with questions or concerns at
319-232-2733, as Tina is available to assist and will respond promptly. We encourage timely communication to ensure Newsletter and S.A.L.T updates are submitted without last-minute stress and advise checking Facebook for updates on office availability, especially when staff are out or unwell. For major events or emergencies, updates will also be shared via Facebook, Gloo text messages, and email to keep the congregation informed.

Old Business:
Congregation Questions: Some people have expressed a desire to have Call Committee updates more regularly, even if there is no news. They would like to know more about Pastor Sue renting one of the downstairs classrooms.
Worship: The AC is working again. The committee discussed whether or not to have all summer worship services in the Fellowship Hall, especially if that would mean not cooling the sanctuary. There would be no significant change in AC use if that was made. The committee decided to continue with the current plan to have the casual workshop only on the last Sunday of each month.
New Business:
Summer Rummage Sale: Possible dates to consider are July 25 or Aug. 8. Marcy will check her calendar and see if one of those works for her to help organize this.
Fall Festival: If we do this, the date is Nov. 7, 2026 (the first Saturday). Council needs to discuss festival food ideas with Andrea Boose.
Giving During Summer: Giving numbers are down in the summer, but that is typical for us and other churches. Tina will include a message in the Visitor about continuing to give offerings in the summer months.
Sunday Services on Holidays: Council discussed summer holidays that might affect church attendance, such as July 4 and Labor Day. Attendance is low if those fall near a weekend. The question was asked whether or not we should try a Wednesday evening service those weeks instead and hope for increased church attendance/giving. Council decided to continue with Sunday services.
Emmanuel (Student Scholarship): The Synod agrees that a scholarship is a good plan for compensating Emmanuel for his services while he’s a student. This would be arranged on a semester-by-semester basis. Mary and Tina are working out the details, including communicating with the UCC about getting a template for setting this up. Once that is complete, the bishop will need to sign off.
Property:
- Mower: The lawn mower is fixed for now, but the church needs a new riding mower. Council discussed creating a special fundraiser for a new mower. Tina will share this with the congregation. Dan Varney will research prices for mowers to be purchased locally. If bought at Lowe’s, we can get a 10% discount using Frank Strelow or Ken Pfiffner’s military discount.
- Little Free Library: Dan is working on replacing the broken post.
Room Rentals: Marcy Seible rented the fellowship hall for a bridal shower in June. Pastor Sue will rent one of the classrooms downstairs on a month-to-month basis.
Outreach/Fellowship:
- St. Ansgar’s Father’s Day Breakfast: Several people have signed up to bring food. Everyone is looking forward to this as an event that brings us together for fellowship.
Church Play: Another church offered to bring a play they have written and to perform for us during one of our services. This is on hold for now.
Worship / Call Committee:
Call information has been submitted. Now we wait for someone to contact us.
Office Report: Tina reported that transferring the office phone to her phone worked fine.
